3-1-18 Fort Wayne District: Rain transitions to wet snow for northeast areas this afternoon! Details here. N.

Synopsis: Good Thursday morning! Tricky forecast today as rain showers should continue to increase through the morning, then the possibility of areas north and east to transition to wet snow this afternoon.  The transition looks to happen around noon/1pm Lagrange to Angola, then wet snow will fall in far northeast areas through the afternoon.  “Potential” to see 1-4″ of slushy, wet snow mainly in Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, and Dekalb counties….highest amounts near Angola.  Snow may linger in Steuben/Dekalb counties through 8/9pm, then exits east.  Very gusty winds out of the north/northwest over 30mph at times.  ***This is a tricky, nowcast situation as small differences in how quickly the low strengthens is key to the snow chance.  If the low doesn’t ramp up as fast, there may literally be no snow, and it would happen a bit further east in Ohio/Michigan.  If the low ramps up faster allowing cold air to draw in, that could increase the threat for accumulating snow here.***

Total snow potential…keep in mind actual amounts likely lower due to melting:

Winds become gusty out of the north through the day, shifting to northwest this evening:

Temperatures will be above freezing as the snow falls, then falling below freezing once the snow exits overnight.  That will allow for refreezing potential, but gusty winds should help out.  The possibility of heavier snow rates near Angola may allow for some accumulation on roadways despite the warm ground/air temps.
