Good Friday morning! A mesoscale discussion has been issued for the northern row of counties in Indiana for moderate to heavy snowfall rates through sunrise this morning:
Snow is expected to continue falling across the northern sections of the area throughout the morning, with a bit of a lull developing this afternoon. Another pulse of snow possible this evening, with a stronger pulse showing up for 2-8am ET Saturday. We also need to watch southeast portions of the Fort Wayne district to see some sleet and freezing drizzle to mix in late tonight and continue through the day on Saturday (Bluffton/Wabash subdistricts). Here is a look at the snowfall potential through tonight:
Forecast radar from 1am to 10pm EST Sunday shows a more potent wave working in during the pre-dawn hours Sunday, with the snow pushing out late Sunday afternoon. While most of the area should be all snow, we cannot rule out the chance for some freezing rain to mix in across southeast sections of the Fort Wayne district.
Many areas could see an additional 2-3″, with local 4″ amounts with this Saturday night/Sunday wave. This time, the accumulating snow should impact all of northern Indiana. Here is a look at 24-hour snow potential from 1pm Saturday to 1pm EST Sunday:
Lastly, temperatures today will be warmer, allowing for that snow to become heavier and wetter in nature. Temperatures stay at or below freezing in the far northern row of counties, but warm above freezing south. Fort Wayne warms to 36, approaching 40º south of there. We all turn below freezing tonight, and stay there throughout the weekend.
