2-9-18 Indiana Update: Snow continues north today, freezing rain likely this weekend. Latest information here! N.

Video (8 min):

Good Friday morning! Warmer air on the way today, then we expect an unsettled weekend with a wintry mix.  Freezing rain with some icing will be the biggest concern across the area this weekend, with the highest threat Saturday night through Sunday.  Northern sections of Indiana will continue to see rounds of snow piling up through the weekend.

Temperatures trend much warmer today south of the warm front draped across northern Indiana.  This front will start to work southward as a cold front this evening through Saturday.  At the same time, we have some warmer air and moisture advecting in aloft.  This will lead to the concern for freezing drizzle in central/north-central Indiana by Saturday morning and through the day (esp. along/north of I-70).  Forecast temperatures from 7am today to 4pm EST Saturday:

Northern portions of the state will continue to see snow piling up today.  Check out the forecast snow amounts by tonight:

If you have travel plans late tonight and Saturday, watch for the freezing drizzle risk to develop here in the circled area as temperatures fall below freezing.  Bridges/overpasses will be the first areas to ice up, so use caution!  This threat will continue throughout the day Saturday, but I think the greatest concern for a glaze of ice during late morning/afternoon will shift just north/west of Indianapolis.

Here is a look at the forecast radar from 10pm Saturday to 2pm Sunday.  This shows our biggest concern as more widespread precipitation builds in.  A corridor of freezing rain across I-70 and most of central Indiana (pink color), snow (blue) in northwest Indiana, and plain rain (green) in far southeast sections of the state where your temperatures stay just above freezing.  Just know the freezing rain (even light amounts) could make travel very hazardous Saturday night and during the morning hours Sunday.

Here is a graphic illustrating where we see the highest concerns for light icing.  Probability of a tenth inch or greater.  A line from Sullivan-Indy-Muncie is where we see the highest probabilities:

Northwest sections of the state see all snow, with an additional 2-4″ possible there.
