Good Friday morning! A mesoscale discussion has been issued for northern sections of the state for moderate-heavy snowfall rates through sunrise:
Forecast radar through 1:30PM CT shows the wave of snow pushing east and mostly out of northern Illinois late morning into the afternoon, with a lull in snowfall expected:
We then target another wave of snow possible from mid-afternoon through early evening here. Another lull is possible by mid-evening before a more potent wave moves in during the pre-dawn hours Saturday:
Here is a look at the additional snowfall potential through Saturday morning (light blue 2-4″, slightly darker shade is 4-6″): Notice the snow will gradually begin targeting areas further south.
Watch for drizzle to develop central/southern portions of the state tonight and Saturday, with an area of freezing drizzle likely across central areas to near I-70.
More widespread precipitation builds in Saturday night into Sunday. Snow likely for central/northwest portions of the state, while areas along I-70 and southern Illinois have freezing rain.
