Good morning! Latest look at the radar shows continued areas of light snow affecting the Chicago metro and northern Illinois. An additional half-inch to 1″ is possible here this morning mainly in the circled area below as we watch another wave ride down from Wisconsin.
Sleet and freezing rain made travel very slick across southern Illinois overnight. Here is a look at the ice/sleet reports. Overall, it appears ice totals stayed lower than forecast, but we are lacking reports so far.
Forecast radar shows a lingering chance for flurries or light snow in northeast Illinois today, but eventually tapers off this afternoon. Most areas will work in some sunshine.
An impulse of energy will work in after midnight tonight through early afternoon Thursday bringing the chance of snow across northern Illinois. A half-inch to 1″ is possible in northeast Illinois. Wouldn’t rule out some getting 1-2″ across northwest Illinois closer to the Iowa border.
We then watch for the potential of heavy snow in northern portions of the state Thursday night through Friday night. A winter storm watch has been issued for these areas in blue:
Snow looks to spread into northern Illinois between 6pm to midnight Thursday evening….then continue throughout the day Friday into Friday night. More snow will work into this area Saturday. It may seemingly never stop snowing in northern Illinois Thursday night through Saturday night.
Models vary on exact placement and amounts, but a swath of significant snows likely to set up somewhere in northern Illinois. A very sharp southern cut-off is likely.
