Good Wednesday morning everyone. Snow is developing in Western SD at a pretty potent rate with 3-6″ of snow certainly on the table from Dupree to Eureka, SD into the early afternoon hours:
The system will continue to develop and intensify throughout the day today with heavy snow shifting from SD into SE ND and NW Minnesota as we work into this afternoon and evening. Snow will continue to develop in Eastern SD and into Southern Minnesota tonight and into tomorrow and continue throughout most of the day tomorrow.
Snow will begin to taper off on Thursday night with snow out of the area by Friday morning:
The heavy band today that is currently in SD will aid in localized totals of 12″+ when all is said and done. Low-level frontogenesis will aid in allowing for the area in red to see the heaviest snowfall with this system. We’ll need to watch a defamation band in SE Minnesota that could lead to overachieving tomorrow afternoon and evening:
Temperatures will be very cold throughout this system leading to high snow to liquid ratios, fluffy snow and the increased risk of blowing and drifting snow. Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:
