2-6-18 Vincennes/Seymour Forecast: Watching for a high impact icing and snow threat tonight. Latest here! N.

Video Forecast (8 min):

Winter weather advisories have been posted for tonight with the concern of ice and snow accumulation:

Lingering flurries are possible in spots through 7am this morning, then we should see dry weather during the daytime with a little bit of sun.  Our next winter event arrives overnight.  Precipitation will begin to work into southwest Indiana by 10pm ET, then by midnight wintry precipitation will be encompassing much of the area.  Purple indicates freezing rain, pink sleet, and blue as snow.  Even areas that start as snow over the northern half will have the potential for some freezing rain deeper into the event (3-5am) as snow flake generation aloft is lost.  Here is the forecast radar from 8pm this evening to 10am ET Wednesday:

Here is where we are targeting the greatest icing tonight.  0.1-0.2″ of icing seems reasonable, with isolated spots possibly seeing up to a quarter-inch.  Even north of this circled area, the concern will be for a thin glaze.

Here is a look at snowfall potential.  There could be a narrow band of higher amounts totaling 2-3″ somewhere over south-central Indiana.   Most areas around an inch.

Here is a look at the temperature trends from 4pm today to 7pm Wednesday.  Temperatures rise a bit above freezing today, then fall well below freezing overnight…20s for many areas.  The saving grace will be that temperatures rise into the mid 30s by Wednesday afternoon which will aid in improving conditions out there.

We should see skies start to clear northwest to southeast Wednesday afternoon.
