2-6-18 Ohio: Targeting accumulating snowfall & concerning freezing rain tonight into Wed AM…messy morning commute likely. K.

Today’s video:

Updated winter weather advisories…wouldn’t be shocked to see an ice storm warning across southern Ohio if data stays consistent on 0.1-0.3″ of freezing rain potential into Wednesday morning:

Sim radar guidance is below…expecting the atmosphere to saturate between 9pm-12am tonight in western Ohio. Very concerning looking for freezing rain from near Cincinnati to Circleville and points south/east…with the issue being surface temps ranging between 28-30º during this same timeframe where precipitation is falling as liquid; travel is not advised because it’ll be impossible to keep treatment on the pavement, allowing for things to remain slick. You travel just north of Cincinnati to Columbus and portions north/east we expect a heavy band of snow to work west to east overnight into early afternoon, with lighter snow noted to the north and west throughout the event.

Temps tonight into Wednesday overall stay below freezing allowing for precipitation to freeze on contact and become slick. We do warm south of I-70 near/slightly above freezing Wednesday with some sunshine possible, which should help melt off some of the snow fortunately.

Snowfall accumulation guidance through Wednesday…the area in red we felt the highest confidence of 3-6″, with lighter totals north and west of generally 1-3″. To the south we think it’ll be tough to sustain any snowfall accumulations with much of the precipitation falling in liquid form.

Freezing rain accumulation guidance is quite concerning into Wednesday morning ~0.1-0.3″…there will be a tight gradient between where the heavy snow and freezing rain band sets up shop…a wobble of ~25 miles will be possible north/south of this circle. Take EXTREME caution when traveling Wednesday morning, especially south of I-70 with accumulating snow and freezing rain likely:
