Good morning everyone!
Before we get to the 3-Miler forecast, we wanted to give you a quick look at what to anticipate the next few days. Here is a look at our official snowfall forecast across the region for tonight into tomorrow:
Some sleet is possible tonight, but the majority of snow accumulations will remain a few counties north of the Indianapolis area. Here is a look at the precipitation type by hour tonight into early tomorrow morning:
Simulated Radar:
Slick spots are certainly possible into tomorrow morning as any glaze of ice can cause issues especially with temperatures anticipated to be several degrees below freezing. However, freezing rain amounts are likely to be less than 0.05″.
There could be freezing drizzle lingering around for a good bit of the day tomorrow, but it will become less frequent after 10AM tomorrow morning. With that being said, there will continue to be the risks for slick spots on untreated surfaces with temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the day tomorrow. As we work into tomorrow evening after 8/9PM we could start to deal with some scattered light snow showers along and SE of Indianapolis. This activity likely lingers into 8-9AM Friday morning before it exits. This backside snow has the potential to put down a coating up to 1″ of snow.
Snowfall potential with this wave:
As we work into Saturday, we do once again have the risk for some very light snow. However, we will be battling dry air. Flurries may develop in the pre-dawn hours with scattered snow showers until we work into noon.
Saturday Forecast Discussion:
The weak wave of snow that we are keeping an eye on for Saturday has sped up a few hours with some flurries beginning as early as 7AM. A better chance at scattered, light snow showers will likely develop closer to 8/9 AM with temperatures below freezing. However, dry air at the surface will likely limit the extent of snowfall threats for the area. This dry air will likely prevent notable accumulations from occurring and we could setup a scenario where most of the snow that falls just blows around with nothing more than a coating on untreated surfaces and grassy areas. Temperatures will rise above freezing by the PM hours and any snow will quickly melt.
Hourly Forecast:
