2-5-18 Seymour/Vincennes Forecast: Light snow for some tonight….impactful wintry weather possible Tuesday night into Wednesday. N.

Video:

Dry weather expected during the daylight hours today with morning sun giving way to afternoon clouds.  A disturbance will move our way this evening and overnight.  The steadier, heavier snows will stay north of our area, but some light snow expected mainly from a Vincennes-Bedford-Seymour line and points northward.  Can’t rule out the risk down to near I-64, but areas south of there along the river likely stay completely dry.  Some of our northern areas could approach 1″, but less than 1″ is generally expected for mainly the northern half of the area.  Here is a look at the forecast radar…light snow works in generally 8-11pm ET, and moves out by 4am ET:

Temperatures will fall into the mid 20s tonight in areas that see the light snow, so expect a dry snow.  The good news is that wind is not a big threat with this disturbance.

Here is a look at potential snowfall…again we target mainly a Vincennes to Mitchell/Madison line and points north to see the light snow threat of less than 1″…areas along/south of I-64 likely see nothing more than a few flurries (if that).

After a break during the day-time Tuesday, we watch overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning for more impactful wintry weather potential, especially beyond midnight during pre-dawn Wednesday.  The big concern will be for a band of freezing rain across southern Indiana near I-64, and light snow further north.  There will be a heavier push of Gulf moisture riding up from the south, but it will reach a northern limit.  Where we see the overlap of heavier moisture and below freezing temperatures looks to be near I-64.  Areas north look to see all snow, and the data continues to trend lower on snow amounts.  Just north of the freezing rain band, it wouldn’t shock me to see a narrow 2-3″ snow band, but lower confidence at this time.  We will need to fine tune the amounts of freezing rain/snow as we get closer.
