Scattered showers will increase west to east this morning….for most areas the rain arrives late morning/lunch-time then lingers into the early evening.
0.1″ to 0.3″ of rain expected today:
Behind the front, Tuesday will be a cooler but drier day, but by the mid-afternoon and evening the front will begin lifting back north as a warm front. Temperatures can be just cold enough for a freezing rain issue in northern Indiana Tuesday night. By later Wednesday morning and beyond, we look to pump in enough warm air there for just rain there. Northern Illinois is where concern will be a lot higher, as temps will continually stay colder there.
The bigger story will be the heavy rain threat mid-week…with the heaviest rain to come on Thursday. Rain totals by Friday morning will be in the 2-3″ range in central and Southern Indiana. Wouldn’t rule out local 4″ totals along the river. Northern Indiana will see the lowest amounts closer to 1″. The water has nowhere to go with the very saturated ground and high river levels, so expect flooding.
Much colder air will return Friday, along with dry conditions Friday and Saturday. However, signs point to the active pattern continuing for much of the month.
High temperatures over the next 4 days: Expect a big spread in temps north to south mid-week with a strong frontal boundary overhead….most areas get into the warm sector Thursday before sharply colder temperatures return late week.
