2-28-19 Northern Plains: Rounds of accumulating snow tonight, tomorrow night. Details here. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Thursday morning everyone. Snow showers that worked across portions of South Dakota overnight are working out of the area with little accumulating left on the table for SE SD and SW MN.

Overall, throughout the day it will be relatively quiet with many seeing sunshine and dry weather. However, our next disturbance will begin to work in from the west into the Western Dakotas overnight tonight and into early tomorrow morning. This wave looks to drop a widespread swath of 1-2″ with a few bands of 2-4″ certainly on the table where energy and convergence are higher:

Here’s a look at our latest forecast for tonight into tomorrow:

An arctic front will spawn a few snow showers and squalls in N. ND and N. MN which could lead to an isolated dusting to an inch of snow, but our main system will work into Western South Dakota on Saturday. This system does have the potential to drop 3-6″ in SW SD, but there are still a good variety of solutions on the table as far as intensity and exact placement of snow. Based on current guidance areas from Rapid City points SW have the highest risk for accumulations while Dupree and Pierre will be on the line for a better shot at light accumulations with lower risks of snow to the east.

Behind this system our attention will turn to the bitterly cold temperatures that will develop behind this system Sunday Morning and into early next week. Here’s a look at wind chills from Saturday Morning to Tuesday morning:

Sunday and Monday morning will likely be the coldest with dangerously cold wind chills certainly on the table. Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:
