Good Wednesday morning! Currently we are seeing showers building across southern Illinois, as well as north central Indiana. Scattered showers can be expected today, especially over the southern half of the area. Not an all day rain. More widespread rain with some thunder will move into the region from midnight tonight through the first half of the day Thursday. Expect a wet morning commute tomorrow!
This storm will start to “phase” with northern stream energy as it moves to our east, and this allows colder air to get drawn in. This will mean the potential of backside snow showers in northeast Illinois, with the best chances in northern Indiana/Ohio and southern Michigan late tomorrow afternoon through tomorrow night. The timing of the phasing and placement will be key, as potential is there for a decent band of wet snow in Michigan. If that band decides to set up further south, that could increase the chance for slushy snow accumulations in these areas.
Most of the data keeps the deformation band of potentially heavier snow from near Lansing to Detroit/Flint Michigan, the heavier as it moves east into New York. The data only shows light amounts of under 1″ in northern Indiana, and that doesn’t account for the warm ground/marginal air temperatures. Given that, we don’t see this being much of any impact.
Checking out temperatures, temperatures will gradually fall from north to south Thursday afternoon and night:
Plan on a windy day tomorrow, with gusts 35-40 mph at times during the afternoon and evening out of the west to northwest.
Total precipitation has trended lighter for southern portions of the area, with a general 0.5″ to 1″ central and north. Heaviest in northern Ohio due to system phasing, where 1″-1.5″ is possible from Fort Wayne to Cleveland.
Once we get past tomorrow, dry weather returns Friday through the entire weekend. Saturday and Sunday look to feature a lot of sunshine! Temperatures will be in the 40s for most Friday and Saturday, then upper 40s to middle 50s by Sunday. Lows in the 20s with frosty mornings Saturday and Sunday.
