2-26-18 IN-IL-OH Forecast: Nice start to the week – rain returns mid-week. N.

Video (5:52):

Good Monday morning!  After a very wet week last week, we are going to enjoy a couple dry days to start the week with above normal warmth!  Next rain chances arrive Wednesday and Thursday!

Check out the observed rainfall across the region over the past week…Indianapolis recorded 4.00″ of rain, with 1.70″ of that falling on Saturday (tying a daily rainfall record set in 2016).

Temperatures today will soar into the low to mid 50s for most areas under a sunny sky.  Variable winds 5-15 mph.  Clear tonight with lows in the lower to upper 30s, then mostly sunny Tuesday with highs approaching 60º for most areas. A bit more breezy Tuesday with south winds gusting 15-25 mph.  Enjoy!

The next threat for rain arrives after midnight Tuesday night, with Wednesday trending to be a wet day for the southern half of the area (mainly south of I-70), with showers more isolated to scattered in nature north.  Widespread showers work in after midnight Wednesday night, with a rainy day on Thursday across the region.  With this being a potent system and some colder air working in on the backside, there is potential for a switchover to some wet snow in northern Illinois into northern Indiana Thursday evening.  Warm ground and temperatures largely above freezing should limit it to slushy accumulations there with low impact.  The rest of the area can expect the rains to diminish Thursday night.

This system will be a decent rain-maker, with totals of 0.5″ to 1″ with higher amounts possible north and far south.

Also plan on a windy day Thursday gusting to 35 mph.  Forecast wind gusts from 1am Thursday to 1pm Friday:

Thursday will still be a mild day for most, then we trend colder Thursday evening and night.  Temperature loop from 1am Thursday to 1pm Friday:

Dry weather returns Friday along with a cooler air mass bringing highs back into the 40s.  Right now next weekend looks good with dry conditions, sunshine, and temperatures mostly in the 40s.
