Good Thursday morning! We have winter weather advisories from eastern South Dakota through much of Minnesota for a swath of several inches of snow:

Current radar as of 9am CT…snow approaching southern portions of the region:

Snows will increase in South Dakota as we head through the afternoon, with the brunt of the snow in Minnesota falling this evening into predawn Friday.

Here is a look at snowfall potential.  A widespread 3-6″…with a band where isolated 6″+ amounts are possible in central Minnesota.  

Far southeast Minnesota will mix in freezing rain for this event, mainly southeast of Rochester:

The next storm system arrives on Saturday, will have the potential to bring decent snow to parts of the area….overall the same areas that get snow tonight look to be in the path of Saturday’s snowfall.  It will also get breezy with the system strengthening as it moves away from the area.  

Here are several different model solutions for Saturday snow potential.  Uncertainty remains in exact track and intensity of the storm.  

Temperatures overall trend warmer in the days to come…Sunday and Monday will feature much more mild conditions across the region (compared to where we have been).

Total precipitation over the next week….decent moisture targeting eastern portions of the area….the western Dakotas remain mainly dry.
