Good Thursday morning! Wet start for much of the state this morning, but thankfully the steady area of rain is starting to shift east.
The steady rain will push out by 8am, with additional scattered showers possible through noon. Much of the afternoon looks dry.
The next round arrives overnight into Friday morning. This could contain heavy rain and some claps of thunder. Similar to today, I think many areas of central and northern Indiana see a dry period for the afternoon, while showers likely continue along the Ohio River.
Thankfully the heavy rains will miss northern Indiana, where significant flooding continues in areas. The heavy rains target the southern half of the state with a widespread 1.5″-2.5″ through Friday afternoon.
Temperatures will warm through the day into the 40s, with some 50s across southern Indiana. Warmer air will work back in from the south tonight, with much of the state seeing 50s for highs Friday.
The next wave arrives Friday night, with Saturday expected to be a soggy day all across the state. A strong cold front will push through Saturday night with the potential of strong thunderstorms in the southern portions of the state, along with very heavy rain.
Outside of flooding, gusty winds will be the greatest concern with the storms Saturday night across southern Indiana. Greater risk closer to the river. With the very wet ground, this will make it easier for trees to uproot. We will monitor the severe threat as we get closer.
The total rain from now through Sunday morning is significant, with the heaviest rains targeting southern Indiana. Even a band of over 4″ showing up from Bedford to Columbus. Thankfully areas like Elkhart and South Bend will escape the heavy stuff, but any additional rain is not needed.
Finally, the rains will move out early Sunday, then a dry stretch should take hold through Tuesday. Temperatures will remain above average with 40s on Sunday, then 50s for much of the state Monday-Wednesday. Do note that colder air looms beyond this period!
