Good morning! Much better weather across the state today with filtered sunshine and highs for many areas warming above 40º! Showers across Kentucky may try to clip extreme southern Indiana this evening, but most of the area remains dry. Friday should be a similar story, with just a slight chance for a shower across southern Indiana late Friday.
The weekend features widespread rains lifting in from south to north Saturday, a severe storm threat Saturday late afternoon and overnight (5pm-11pm ET), then VERY windy conditions Saturday overnight through Sunday behind the cold front. Here’s a look at the severe storm ingredients for Saturday evening, showing strong wind energy and elevated instability working into the southern half of the state.
I think the current SPC map gives a good idea of the severe threat, but I do think the slight risk can get shifted north to Indy. Certainly think areas closer to the Ohio River (and south) will have the best severe storm threat. Southwest Indiana towards Evansville may be especially favorable regarding an earlier timing during the late afternoon, when higher instability can be realized.
Winds will be a big story overnight Saturday through Sunday. Sunday morning can bring local gusts of 50+mph, we could be talking about a high wind warning type of event, especially for Northern Indiana. Winds will be due west on Sunday.
Total precipitaiton through Sunday morning will range from 0.50″ to 1″
