Good Wednesday morning! We have winter weather advisories covering much of central Missouri to western Kansas. Most of these go into effect this evening, and last through Thursday morning for a combination of freezing rain, sleet, and snow:
Forecast radar shows the wintry mix building into Kansas this afternoon, and spreading north as we go through the overnight and Thursday. Iowa starts as mostly snow and sleet, and sees the transition to sleet/freezing rain as we go deeper through Thursday as warmer air aloft builds in. Lowest amounts in eastern portions of the state. Loop from 10AM today to 5AM Friday:
Some areas will get a few to several inches of snow, mostly from central Kansas, eastern half of Nebraska, and western Iowa. A couple bands of 2-4″, wouldn’t rule out a localized higher amount in western Iowa.
The overall idea for icing will be 0.1″ to 0.2″ through midnight Thursday night.
Total precipitation over the next 60 hours:
A more robust system arrives Friday night and Saturday. Current glance at data suggests western Iowa to central Nebraska may get decent snowfall, while areas further south and east see more rain this time as warmer air is drawn northward. We will have more on this system tomorrow.
