2-18-19 Indiana: Snow showers this AM diminish into tonight….winter weather likely Tuesday night….details here! N.

Video:

Good morning!  As of this update a few flurries are flying across the state.  In most areas, this isn’t causing much of an impact.  There will be localized areas this morning where bursts of snow showers develop and can coat the roadways for a time.  Best risk of this showing up across north-central/Northern Indiana, but it also appears a few bursts of snow will ride across south-central Indiana, especially between now and sunrise.  A few flurries will continue this afternoon.

Total snow through tonight: Scattered coatings generally under 0.5″ mainly north of Indy, with pockets in Lake county, IN just over 1″ due to lake-enhanced snow.

Keeping a close eye on wintry weather Tuesday night.  Winter weather looks to impact nearly all of the state for a time, lifting from south to north during the overnight hours.  This could be a band of moderate to heavy wet snowfall coming down for a few hours in many locations, with sleet and some freezing rain likely to mix in before switching to all rain into Wednesday morning.  Questions remain on how fast the warmer air lifts in to switch the snow over to sleet/freezing rain which will impact snow totals.  There is upside potential that if the precipitation comes down hard enough and cools the atmosphere efficiently, there could be locations getting in on ‘up to’ a few inches of snow and a plowable event before things drastically improve Wednesday morning.  Right now for a forecast I would say 1-3″ of snow/sleet initially overnight Tuesday for most areas, with 1″ or less for far southern Indiana.   More details on timing in the video.

Temperatures look to cool to 28-31º across central Indiana as the heaviest winter precip. moves in, then warming quickly above freezing from 4-9am Wednesday:
