Good Saturday afternoon. Wanted to quickly update on the wet snow impacting southern Indiana, which is overachieving. Heavy rates of wet snow falling in portions of the Vincennes district, quickly covering the grass and heavy enough to make roads slushy and slick in spots. The snow is falling quite heavy in Evansville! Radar as of noon:
Given the quick heavy rates of snow, this may drop a 1-3″ snowfall. A slushy 1″ possible on roadways where the snow is falling heaviest. The highest amounts in southwest Indiana, and further east up to 1″ is possible. Roads may become slick for a time under the heaviest bands.
The snow will be exiting southern Indiana 2-4pm ET, and some of it will mix with rain. Once the precipitation exits, snow will quickly melt. Locations further north will see additional light rain and snow showers move in by 3-5pm. As we head into tonight, precipitation should largely exit the state by 10pm ET. Temperatures will fall below freezing overnight, but breezy conditions through midnight should allow pavement to mostly dry up. If there is any remaining moisture overnight, refreeze is possible. Not very concerned about this threat. As discussed this morning, watch for freezing fog to form mainly in southwest Indiana.
