2-16-18 Ohio: Targeting wintry mix Saturday with heavy rainfall chances working in early next week. K.

Today’s video:

Rainfall totals over the past 24 hours…I-70 corridor and points south impressive rainfall of 1.5-2″+:

Expecting the moderate to heavy rainfall to slowly work southeast through the early afternoon moving out of the state by ~4pm. We also noted that north of I-70 a few flurries/snow showers possible into early afternoon as well, but surface and pavement temps look to stay above freezing:

Saturday morning into the evening and early Sunday morning simulated radar guidance is below; it’s important to understand that surface/pavement temps look to stay above freezing the entire day Saturday…so we may work in heavy, wet snow mix with rain at times, but accumulations on pavement aren’t looking likely. With that being said, a coating to ~0.5″ possible of accumulation on grassy/elevated surfaces. Temps do look to fall below freezing Sunday morning so any areas left untreated will possibly refreeze making for some slick spots:

The big story is next weeks intense and long-lived rainfall chances as a we get a stout upper level jet stream hoisting Gulf moisture into the Ohio Valley. Right now we are favoring along and north/northwest of I-70 for the heaviest totals, but this could be a 3-day rainfall event dropping anywhere between 1-3″ and localized flooding issues once again; we will update on this often:
