2-15-18 Northern Plains Forecast: Watching several chances for snow into early next week. N.

Video:

Current radar shows snow in western South Dakota expanding in coverage, affecting the Spearfish area this morning:

Forecast radar from 7am to 8pm MT today shows the band of snow working east and getting shoved southward as arctic high pressure builds in.

Idea of snowfall hasn’t changed from yesterday:

Temperatures will turn colder through the day as arctic air surges in, but note by tomorrow afternoon it’s actually quite mild again:

A disturbance will bring snow showers Friday night into Saturday.  General coatings of snow are possible, with the potential for a localized band of higher amounts in the western Dakotas.

A stronger disturbance will move west to east across the area Saturday night and Sunday.  A band of 3-5″ of snow is possible, but exact placement will need to be nailed down as we get closer.

Latest model guidance on snow potential Sunday:

On the heels of this disturbance, more snow is likely Sunday night-Monday, and this could bring the heaviest snow out of the next several disturbances.
