2-12-20 Tovar Peoria: Updated thinking on snowfall amounts today.V.

Good Wednesday Morning! Below is your latest forecast update- *please watch the video because temperatures being just 1 degree different than what is modeled will have a MAJOR impact on precip types*

Current favored sim radar from 9 AM CT today through 9 AM CT tomorrow:

Temps during this same time- high temps across the state reaching 36/37 today will help warm pavement and we would expect a pavement lag so there looks to be several hours where pavement temps do not fall below freezing while snow is falling. We want to stress that this will no doubt be a “nowcast” type deal with the rain/snow line and where exactly that sets up. Again, the slightest difference in surface temps along our rain/snow line can literally be the difference between all rain and multiple inches of snow. We are expecting a very sharp cutoff with the snow on the southern extent of the snow totals with the main wave:

Current favored snowfall accumulation- Based on warmer temps through the daytime hours today, surface temps never really falling below 32 during the event, and compaction, we favor totals on pavement to certainly be lower than what falls on grassy, elevated surfaces. Check video for details:

If any pavement is still wet come Thursday morning we will see refreeze- temps shown below are ~Noon CT Thursday:
