2-12-19 Northern Plains: Tracking backside of today’s winter storm and several more rounds of accumulating snow. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone! We still have snow ongoing throughout Eastern Minnesota which is leading to additional snow accumulations. Some weak frontogenesis favors the Duluth area a for the best chance to see an additional 4-6″ of snow. Here’s a look at the current radar:

Here’s a look at additional expected accumulation throughout the day today and the simulated radar:

The Dakotas should see some sunshine today, but another system will begin to approach the Western Dakotas as we work into this evening and tonight. This is along an arctic front that will drop some additional light snow accumulations for northern counties in North Dakota and Minnesota. Here’s a look at simulated radar and the latest snowfall idea from the NAM3 model:

We could see some lingering snow showers and flurries on the backside of this wave as we work into Thursday and Thursday evening across Minnesota, but attention this turns back to the Western Dakotas for multiple rounds of a accumulation snow possible as we work into Friday and another wave Saturday and into Sunday. The European has been relatively consistent with the first wave, but model data still varies wildly on placement and intensity of the second wave Saturday/Sunday. Here’s a look at the simulated radar and an idea of snowfall for the Friday wave. Note there’s still a lot of time for things to shift around and consistency is very low given the multiple rounds of energy working through the area. Be sure to check back in for updates throughout the week on these systems:
