12-28-19 Tovar SE Wisconsin: Heavy rain this weekend… light snow possible early next week. MG.

Wisconsin Video:

Portions of northern Wisconsin are currently under a Winter Weather Advisory, including Stevens Point.  This is for some potential slick spots this morning from light freezing rain and sleet.  Temperatures will continue to climb this afternoon into the overnight, which will help melt slick spots this afternoon.

Widespread heavy rain will be possible this weekend with lightning and thunder and gusty conditions under some of the stronger storms.  Here is a look at the preferred simulated radar guidance from 1 PM today through 6 AM Monday.

Here is a look at the proffered rainfall amounts through Monday morning.  Amounts 1″ – 2″ will be possible with some spots receiving 2+”.

Snow will be possible on the backside of this system.  Here is a look at simulated radar from 6 AM Monday morning through 3 PM Tuesday.

Here is a look at modeled temperatures during this same timeframe as above.  Temperatures really don’t begin to dip below freezing until Monday night into TUE morning.  Temperatures along the lakeshore look to remain above freezing the longest, limiting accumulation.

Here is a preliminary look at some modeled snowfall totals Monday night into Tuesday morning.  Fine tuning will have to be done as we get closer to Monday.  The image below shows the average snowfall accumulation from several different short range models.  Areas around Stevens Point have the highest chance for accumulating snowfall with lesser amounts to the south and east, especially along the lakeshore.
