12-27-19 NE: Discussing upcoming weekend winter storm. MG.

NE Video:

Here is a look at the current hazards across the state.  Much of western NE is under a winter storm warning.

A potent low pressure system will begin to impact the state of Nebraska tonight and will bring widespread rain (with thunder and lightning possible in eastern NE), freezing rain, and heavy snowfall accumulations throughout the weekend.  Below is a look at preferred simulated radar guidance from  3 PM this afternoon through 9 PM Monday.

Here is a look at the current thoughts on snowfall potential for this weather system.  Areas closer to the Omaha area look to continually see warmer temperatures and rainfall where the highest potential for heavier accumulations remain in northern NE close to the Valentine area.

Aside from snowfall accumulations, there will be some ice accumulations as well.  Here is a look at modeled freezing rain potential out through Monday morning.  While this model may be slightly overdone, ice accumulations of 0.25″+ plus will be possible across central NE.

There is plenty of moisture associated with this system.  Here is a look at precipitin amounts if all fell as rain.  Some areas in eastern NE could see a good amount of rain from this event with amounts of 1+”.

Some stronger wind gust Sunday night into Monday morning could cause some blowing snow issues, especially across northern Nebraska, that could reach blizzard level criteria.  Here is a look at wind gust potential around 1 AM Monday morning.
