12-13-18 IN/IL/OH: Working in a more mild pattern ahead with rain showers increasing into early weekend. K.

Today’s video:

We did note that a brief period of some freezing fog cannot be ruled in the area circled below given the cold temps at the surface and on pavement that could cause slick spots where untreated. One thing to note that’s key is that temps do rise quickly this morning which will cut-off our freezing fog risks…however, some lingering fog/drizzle cannot be ruled out across western IN into north-central IL throughout the day, even after the noon hour:

Rain increases slowly from southwest to northeast throughout the day today, impacting folks south of I-70 in IL first after noon creeping east into western IN as well. The bulk of us across the eastern half of the forecast area today essentially from Indy east into OH stay mostly drier. Into Friday the rain continues to stay south of I-70 through most of the day Friday, finally late Friday night towards midnight into Saturday we see another wave of rain showers creep further north of I-70 with some moderate rain potential in spots as well. It should be noted that the track of this cut-off low pressure system will continue to wobble, which will impact largely the differences in rainfall totals and track. The system should push east out of the forecast area finally late Saturday night:

Rainfall totals through Sunday are below…we’ve noted a consistently northerly trend in the heavier totals as this system has trended further north than previously shown this week. Confidence with cut-off lows are much lower given the fact that there’s no “steering current (jet stream)” to move it east so the wobbles on the data on who sees what goes back and forth consistently:

Temperatures over the next 15 days…..overall mild through the 21st….then we work back in colder air in time for Christmas.
