Today’s Video:
Good Tuesday morning everyone! The storm system that produced rain in southern portions of the area yesterday is continuing to use east with rain still ongoing in far Eastern Minnesota with rain changing to snow on the backside.
Note, we are also seeing another wave of energy dive into the area today which will come with the risk for accumulating snow. These come in the form of snow showers and squalls rather than one large band of snow. This will allow for general accumulation of 1-2″, isolated higher, though given the nature of the snow, some pockets could see less snow.
Very strong wind gusts will be associated with this system and widespread wind gusts of 25 – 40 MPH have prompted wind advisories in the Western Dakotas. Areas seeing snow on the southern side of this system could see visibility and blowing snow issues with snow showers today and into tonight.
Snow moves mostly out of the area by tomorrow morning, but the Northeastern quadrant of Minnesota could see some lingering snow showers or flurries with little additional accumulation into mid-day tomorrow before conditions start to clear out. Here’s a look at our snowfall forecast into tomorrow morning:
Higher pressure will suppress precipitation risks until our next system which will develop late in the day Thursday and into Thursday night. This will likely have a narrow band of accumulating snowfall into Friday afternoon.
This clipper pattern with light waves of snow will be common the next few weeks, with another round or two this weekend and early next week:
