11-28-18 Northern Plains: Tracking accumulating snow today… bigger storm possible this weekend with strong winds. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone! We have a broken area of snow showers working through the Eastern Dakotas and into Western Minnesota. A few areas of nice snow bands are occurring – one moving towards the Fargo area over the next few hours that could put down a quick 1″ of snow.

Here’s a look at the simulated radar into tomorrow evening. Note, we could see additional scattered snow activity especially in Minnesota throughout the day tomorrow. Don’t focus on the specific location of the modeled snow late tonight and into tomorrow, but rather the area we’ve circled with lingering energy and potential snow showers/flurries tomorrow:

Here’s a look at additional snowfall with this system. Note, an additional light glaze of freezing rain/drizzle (with drizzle risks continuing into tomorrow) is possible in Eastern SD and SW Minnesota (note our freezing rain map from yesterday):

We could start to see the impacts of a strong storm system as early as late Friday before it moves across the region Saturday and into Sunday. This storm has the potential to produce *heavy* accumulating snow for southern portions of the region. It will also be accompanied by very strong wind gusts of 35 MPH+ which, if that verified, could produce blizzard conditions at times. Here’s a look at the area most at risk for heavy accumulating snow this weekend:

Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:

Here’s a look at city charts of Sioux Falls, Minneapolis, Fargo and Bismarck:
