Today’s Video:
Good Tuesday morning everyone! We have snow showers working into NW ND this morning, overcoming dry air and putting down some light snowfall accumulations into this afternoon. Here’s a look at the current radar:
The trend over the past 12-18 hours has been stronger with a more concentrated area of energy leading to the risk of higher snowfall accumulations. The risk for freezing rain has continued as well especially for the Central Dakotas as warmer air pushes over-top the cold surface temperatures in the low-levels of the atmosphere. Here’s a look at the simulated radar throughout the next 24 hours. Note, the rain the model is showing on the backside of the snow today and into tonight likely falls as freezing rain given cold surface temperatures:
Throughout the day tomorrow freezing rain persists in the morning, but snow generally will takeover as the dominant precipitation type for Minnesota and Eastern ND tomorrow with some freezing rain/rain risks in SW Minnesota. Here’s a look at the radar from tomorrow morning to Thursday evening.
Energy likely leads to lingering snow showers especially in Minnesota on Thursday with some freezing drizzle risks possible especially in the Eastern Dakotas especially Thursday Morning.
Here’s a look at total freezing rain accumulation through tomorrow evening:
Here’s a look at total snow accumulation through Thursday:
We’ll need to carefully watch a system that works in late Friday with some snow possible in SW SD and scrapes southern portions of the area. Any trend north could lead to accumulating snowfall risks this weekend:
Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days. Note, as temperatures get above freezing on Thursday as the warm front passes, the ice accumulation should melt. This could help limit some road issues with the freezing rain, but the systems looks to move slowly enough to produce issues tonight and throughout much of tomorrow.
