11-19-18 Northern Plains: A few light snow chances to start the week. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Monday morning everyone! A few isolated light snow showers are working through the region, but not going to see any widespread snowfall accumulations. Some areas could pick up a dusting with snow ending from north to south late this morning and into the afternoon as high pressure bears down on the area:

Here’s a look at the simulated radar into this evening:

A warm front surges into the area early tomorrow with enough warm air advection to provide some life in the very cold air mass. This will lead to a wave of snowfall especially in NE ND and Northern Minnesota where cold air will lead to very high snow ratios. Generally snow amounts will range from 0.5 – 1.”. Here’s a look at the simulated radar and the area most likely to see 1″+ of snow into tomorrow evening:

The Central Dakotas could see a couple of areas of patchy low-lying fog Wednesday morning:

Weak energy could lead to some scattered snow showers especially in NE Minnesota throughout the day on Wednesday. Here’s a look at the simulated radar for Wednesday. These snow showers will be very light with a few areas picking up a dusting of snow.

High pressure takes over for Thanksgiving and temperatures will warm up quite nicely for southern and western portions of the area:

Here’s a look at wind gusts over the next 4 days:

We’ll need to watch late Friday for perhaps a wave of some rain showers in Eastern Minnesota.

The next system will start to work in Saturday and Sunday, but data greatly on the timing (GFS is about 24-36 hours faster than the Euro) and location of any rain/snow risks. This will be something we need to trend as we move closer, but it is on our radar for potential impacts late this weekend.

Here’s a look at 7-day precipitation from the GFS. Higher pressure keeps much of the area relatively dry this week!

Here’s a look at city charts for Fargo, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls and Pierre:
