Good afternoon everyone! This will be a quick update regarding storms in the area through tonight. For additional details regarding storm chances Sunday, please refer to this morning’s update! The remnants of this morning’s heavy shower and storm activity has lost some coverage as it tracks through central MO. However, A broken line of storms still remains with light shower further north and west across southeastern IA, northeastern KS, northern MO and far southeastern NE.
As the afternoon progresses, this broken line will drop ESE, potentially become strong to severe from southwestern to east-central MO. The greatest threat with these storms will be damaging winds, but we can’t rule out isolated severe hail and/or an isolated tornado or two.
Simulated radar through 8am CDT Sunday: The complex of storms continues to work ESE through the duration of the day into early night across central MO, becoming strong to severe at times. This broken line of storms will gradually weaken late this evening into tonight as it loses the influence of the low-level jet positioned further north. To the west, areas of showers and perhaps a couple storms will continue across eastern/southern KS into northern MO, IA and southeastern NE this afternoon through tonight. A few weak showers may also impact the NE panhandle tonight as well. By the morning hours Sunday, areas of showers and storms will be ongoing across KS and MO with isolated chances in NE and IA.
Total rainfall through 7am CDT Sunday: The heaviest rains will be featured in areas that are impacted by the broken line of storms from southwestern to east-central MO. Rainfall amounts of 0.5-1.5″ of rain with locally higher amounts are expected to fall along this corridor. Further west, pockets of 0.25-0.75″ of rain is likely, especially in KS. Totals will fall off the further north you are (NE and IA). This model is overdone on rainfall near the Kansas City area as it is taking into account the rains that fell this morning.
