Today’s Video:
Good morning everyone! Lingering areas of snow remain across portions of ND, especially the northern portions, as of 9:30am CDT. Expect these areas of snow to work eastward through the day with light rains developing along the southern periphery of the snows. Northern MN will see additional coverage in rain/snow showers starting late this afternoon and persisting into early night.
Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect across a large chunk of ND, including Minot and Bismarck, until 12pm CDT as the snows slowly exit the area. Winter Storm Watches have been hoisted across portions of the Black Hills for an additional snow event set to impact the area starting Sunday morning.
Here’s a brief synopsis of what to expect regarding the next snow chances lifting into the region first Sunday into Monday morning and then Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. Snowfall amounts of 2-6″ will be likely in the western half of ND and the western third of SD through the first event. Where the Winter Storm Watches are in effect currently (the Black Hills), pockets of 6″+ of snow are possible.
Simulated radar through 7am CDT Saturday: Areas of snows with light rains along the southern periphery will work across ND through the day, impacting locations further east in northern MN late this afternoon into tonight. A few light rain showers will glide through SD as well today while a patch of showers and perhaps a storm will clip very far southern MN this evening.
Additional snow accumulations of 0.5-2″ is expected across portions of ND and far northern MN through tonight: Locations just south of these areas will receive mostly rain with rainfall amounts of up to 0.25″ possible.
Looking ahead Sunday into Monday, another disturbance will lift into the Northern Plains, bringing rains to the eastern Dakotas and MN while additional snows are expected across portions of the western Dakotas. This system will exit the region Monday night with some rains likely persisting across the far southern areas. The active pattern continues with another low pressure system entering from the south Tuesday and introducing more rains to the eastern Dakotas and MN and snows to the western Dakotas. Most rains/snow will exit the region with the second system Wednesday.
Total rainfall over the next 7 days from the American Model: Multiple disturbances will ride along and north of a temperature gradient situated over the Central Plains, which will impact the Northern Plains through the period. Precipitation amounts that include rain and melted snow will total 1-2″ with locally 3″ for a majority of the region.
Here’s a look at temperatures over the next four days: Fresh snow cover over portions of ND and northwestern MN will keep temperatures from warming much throughout the day (highs in the 30s). Lows will drop back into the 20s for many across ND with 30s in SD.
