10-31-18 Northern Plains: Multiple snow chances through this weekend… active pattern persists. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Halloween morning everyone! It’s a relatively quiet day across the region but we do have some snow showers working through Central North Dakota this morning. These will continue to weaken throughout the morning hours but cannot rule out some areas seeing a light dusting.

We could see some isolated flurries or snow showers in Northern Minnesota throughout the day today, but the HRRR is likely a tad overdone. A few spotty snow showers with a low chance of dusting cannot be ruled out:

As we work into tomorrow, we’ll start to see our next piece of energy work form the northwest into the area with scattered showers breaking out in North Dakota by mid-day tomorrow. I do believe we can see a changeover to some snow especially in Northern Minnesota tomorrow evening and linger into Friday as scattered rain pushes to the south and east into Eastern SD and Western Minnesota.

I do think some slushy accumulation is possible, but confidence is low given varying model solutions and risks with rain to snow changeover events. Generally, I think that a pocket of 1-2″ especially in North-Central Minnesota is possible:

Here’s a look at rainfall totals by Friday afternoon:

The next system will move in late Friday and especially into Saturday which could bring a better chance of accumulating snowfall in North Dakota. It will also come with rain in South Dakota and into Minnesota with very strong wind gusts on Saturday in Western SD of 40-50 MPH.

Here’s a look at 7 day precipitation totals across the area:
