10-30-18 Northern Plains: Carefully watching potential rain/snow risks later this week. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Tuesday morning everyone! The wave that brought rain showers yesterday and overnight are pushing out of NE Minnesota.

We’ll see a reinforcing front later today which could spawn some light rain showers this evening and overnight. Most, however, stay dry:

Some gusty winds will accompany this front. Here’s a look at wind gusts the next 4 days:

Tomorrow and Thursday will be relatively quiet, but we’ll start to get activity work back into the area late Thursday and into Thursday night. This is looking overall pretty light right now, but there are some discrepancies in the potential for any snow with this system. The Euro/NAM suggest a band of accumulating snow in Northern Minnesota while the GFS has little to no snow. The NAM/Euro are likely overdone due to feedback issues, but do hint at some frontogenesis which could lead to a band of snow. Here’s a look at the Euro sim radar and the most likely area for some snow, with the caveat that it’s probably a tad overdone.

Our next system will be shortly on the tail of that early Saturday and into Sunday. This system will be much stronger and bring a better chance of accumulating snow especially in North Dakota.

This active pattern likely continues into next week as we continue to see influence from a strong Pacific jet Stream leading to favorable risks for strong storm systems. Here’s a look at 7 day rainfall totals:
