10-24-18 Northern Plains: Tracking waves of rain showers through the weekend. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Wednesday morning everyone! We do have some isolated rain showers on the radar this morning, but most are dry until the wave of energy from the south works into South Dakota later this afternoon and evening. Here’s a look at the current radar:

This system is associated with a warm front that will lead to mild temperatures in the Western Dakotas but keeping low temperatures warm under cloud cover and rainfall in Central and Eastern portions of the area. Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days.

The front pushes to the east slowly with rain risks even into Friday morning. We likely deal with drizzle and mist risks even into Friday night with low-level saturation sticking around into the weekend. Here’s a look at the simulated radar from this afternoon to Friday:

Here’s a look at rainfall through mid-day Friday:

We do likely dry out into Saturday morning with a few lingering areas of patchy showers/mist in Eastern MN, but the next wave will start to work in Saturday afternoon. This will come with rain that drops another 0.25 – 0.5″ of rain from the NW to SE before working out of the area by late in the day on Sunday with the “heaviest” rain occurring overnight Saturday:

Here’s a look at 7 day rainfall with the note the model may be overdone in the white circled area:

Here’s a look at wind gusts over the next 4 days. Note, with the wave on Saturday and Sunday, some very strong wind gusts from the NW are being modeled by data. Given last weekend’s wind event in the Midwest, this needs to be watched closely moving forward.

Here’s a look at city charts for the next 10 days in Pierre, Minot, Fargo, and Minneapolis.
