10-22-18 Northern Plains: Quiet to start the week… activity picking up later this week. B.

Today’s Video:

Good Monday morning everyone! It’s another quiet morning across the area. A cold front will work in later today and into the overnight hours with a few scattered rain/snow showers possible in far NE Minnesota this afternoon and into the overnight hours. This looks to be widely scattered with most staying dry. The model is overdone with the purpose of showing the best location for a few showers today.

Temperatures will drop behind the front and back below freezing tonight. With some low-level moisture cannot rule out a few patchy areas of freezing drizzle in NE Minnesota, but wind gusts likely keep this from being widespread. Here’s a look at temperatures over the next 4 days:

Here’s a look at those wind gusts today with gusts up to 30 MPH from the NW possible:

Note, we will have a warm-front move in for Wednesday which will increase the rain chances initially for South-Central SD and working east into Wednesday morning and into Thursday. The best rain chances look to come in SE SD and SW MN Wednesday and Thursday with lingering showers into Friday.

We’ll see another wave approaching from the west on Friday diving to the SE into the weekend. This will slow as it approaches Minnesota with a developing low pressure system. This will lead to better rain chances especially for Eastern Minnesota this weekend but lingering scattered showers are possible especially for the Eastern Dakotas and Minnesota throughout the weekend:

Overall, this leads to a wetter week 1 period – though the model may be a tad overdone in Eastern Minnesota for the weekend system.

Here’s a look at city charts for Fargo, Sioux Falls, Bismarck and Minneapolis over the next 10 days:
