Good afternoon everyone! This will be a brief update regarding very light precipitation chances in northeastern MN through Tuesday morning. The vast majority of the state will stay dry into tonight, but we are observing an upper-level low swinging through the upper Great Lakes. This upper-level low will clip the northeastern portions of the state this evening into tonight, providing isolated chances for a few scattered rain/snow showers in the circled region below. However, as has been the case recently, dry air at the surface will do work against any precipitation that falls from the clouds, likely evaporating most liquid before it reaches the ground. We can’t rule out some sprinkles/snowflakes making it to the surface given the energy.
Temperatures will drop below freezing Tuesday morning behind the cold front which is attached to this upper-level low. The lower levels of the atmosphere (near the surface) will begin to saturate in northeastern MN as temperatures fall closer to the dew point, allowing for low clouds and perhaps some patchy freezing drizzle to develop. This is not a large threat by any means, but one we would like to point out given the potential risk. Temperatures will warm above freezing as the morning progresses, putting an end to the freezing drizzle risk.
During the day Tuesday, virtually the entire state will stay dry again with high pressure positioned along the western borders. Cloud cover associated with the upper-level low to the east will hang around through a good portion of the day, gradually beginning to clear as we head into the afternoon and especially the evening hours. Another weak pulse of energy from the north will clip locations in the eastern Arrowhead, but as is the story with today, most if not all precipitation won’t reach the surface. The further southwest you head across the state, the better the sky conditions. Cloud cover will increase during the day Wednesday.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great rest of your day!
