10-19-18 Northern Plains: Watching scattered rain/snow showers into tonight… inactive pattern persists. B.

Today’s video:

Good Friday morning everyone! Rain showers overnight in Southern Minnesota continue to push east throughout this morning. Some light to moderate rain showers will continue over the next hour or two but we’ll then clear out into this afternoon.

Total additional rainfall will likely be around a tenth of an inch or less:

The cold front associated with this system will push south into this evening and lead to the risk of some rain or snow showers late this evening and overnight. Generally, these will be light and little accumulation is expected with any snow showers but an isolated dusting to a half an inch cannot be ruled out. Warmer temperatures today will allow most snow to melt on contact other than grassy areas:

Snow likely picks up 10 PM CDT tonight but will move out of the area by 10 AM CDT tomorrow as high pressure works in and brings a return to a completely inactive pattern across the area. In fact, after a chilly day tomorrow for most of the area, a warm front brings a return to 50s and 60s for the Dakotas and even into SW MN.

However, a reinforcing cold front will drop temperatures back into the 20s for many areas on Monday night.

The bigger story tomorrow will be wind gusts up to 40 MPH tomorrow morning. We’ll also see very strong gusts throughout the day today with winds at 10-35 MPH.

Likely not going to be an active week once again with perhaps some light rain chances picking up later next week especially Friday and into the weekend. Most areas stay very dry over the next 5-7 days. Here’s a look at our week 1 rainfall forecast from normal:
