Good afternoon everyone! A swath of light snow stretching from north-central IA southwestward through north-central KS continues to trek eastward as of 12:10pm CDT. Another area of light snow is also working out of northeastern CO along the western border of NE and KS. To the southeast of these snows, areas of rain are still falling southeast of Omaha, NE southward into eastern KS. These snows will continue through the afternoon and evening hours, still spreading south and eastward with time.
Simulated radar through 10am CDT Monday: A gradual transition to snow is still expected for places just east of the convection currently in southwestern/central/northeastern IA, the rest of southeastern NE, northwestern MO and central KS while light rain activity spreads eastward into southeastern IA, other portions of northern/western MO and eastern KS. The trend for some wet snow across the additional portions of IA continues with light rains transitioning to snows as the day progresses into the the early nighttime hours. Snow coverage will begin to decrease this evening with most snow activity dwindling as the night progresses, but a thin stripe of snow is still possible from central KS into northern MO late tonight. This disturbance will lift out of the area around 6am CDT while affecting eastern KS and the rest of MO with light shower activity in the process. During the morning hours, the only area for rain will be in southeastern MO.
Here’s an updated map regarding additional snowfall through tonight: Northwestern NE has dried out but additional snows are expected south and eastward across the eastern and southern portions of the state into IA and the northwestern half of KS. A stripe of 2-4″ of snow remains possible in northwestern KS into portions of southeastern NE. A transition to snow is likely for locations just east of what’s depicted below, but will likely have a difficult time accumulating and will be brief.
Total precipitation through 10am CDT Monday: A general 0.2-0.5″ of liquid is still expected across southeastern NE, KS and most of MO with pockets of 0.75″ of liquid likely where any banding develops. Heavier rainfall amounts will remain just south of the area, exception being the Boot Heel of MO, through this timespan. Precipitation amounts between 0.1-0.25″ is likely in IA.
Just a reminder that the central portions of the region remain under a Freeze Warning for the incoming morning lows Monday dipping below freezing! While not shown, Hard Freeze Warnings are also in effect across western KS.
Here’s the general setup heading into Monday with most rain activity suppressed to the southern third of MO: Areas to the north and west (the majority of the region) will remain largely dry as the cold front will have passed and ushered in cooler, drier air.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out! Have a great rest of your day!
