Wanted to touch on our recent temperature trends, and a look at what’s ahead! December ended up quite mild, outside of an 8 day stretch earlier in the month of below normal temperatures. Indy ended up nearly 5º above average, with a measly 0.5″ of snow! Here were our observed temperature departures for December in Indy.
January has started incredibly warm, with 5 of the first 8 days being 50º+!! The longest 50º+ streak for early January since 1998 (which was a super El Nino). We discussed in a blog last week why we settled into the warm pattern link: http://ow.ly/G9fL30nfzQn
After all the warmth, we are finally working in some January-like temperatures. Here is the 24-hour temperature change.
For the first time since December 11th, we should actually see a few below normal temperature days into the weekend! Check out the forecast temperature anomalies over the next 5 days:
With our colder spell of temperatures comes a winter weather threat this weekend. A large swath of snow is looking likely from the central Plains through the entire Ohio Valley into the mid-Atlantic.
There still remain question marks with this system, with the forecast not set in stone yet. Keep that in mind. However, we favor a large area of significant snowfall across the region this weekend.
