1-8-20 Michigan: Light flurries this morning… heavy rain and snow/ ice potential into the weekend. MG.

MI Update:

Current look at the radar as of 7:55 ET.  We have a few light, lake effect snow flurries across SW Michigan.

Here is a look at simulated radar guidance from 9 AM today through 5 PM today.  Flurries will slowly begin to taper off as we approach the noon timeframe.

Flurries look to remain on the lighter side.  Here is a look at modeled snowfall accumulations for with these flurries.

Temperatures remain on the colder side today as a NW wind continues to bring in colder air.  Here is a look at temperatures around 3 PM.

An active weather pattern develops this weekend beginning tomorrow afternoon.  Heavy rain, snow, and freezing rain/ ice are risk with this storm system.  Here is a look at preferred simulated radar guidance from 10 AM tomorrow through 10 AM Sunday.  There are still some differences in the models on how this system evolves so will have to fine tune as we get closer.  Saturday into Sunday morning looks to be the timeframe for the wintry risk across SW MI.

Here is a look at preferred snowfall totals out through Sunday.  Any shift in the track of this system will have a big impact on where the higher totals can fall.  Will also need to keep an eye on the potential for some freezing rain/ ice accumulations with this system as well.

Here is a look at preferred rainfall accumulations with this system (if all precipitation fell as rain).  Areas across southern MI look to receive around 2″ – 3″ with some isolated higher.
