Precipitation will exit southeast Illinois this morning, with mainly dry conditions for the rest of the day. Clouds will hang tough central and south, but northern portions of the state likely work in sunshine. Forecast afternoon cloud cover shown below:
Watching for freezing fog potential tonight and Tuesday morning as high pressure builds in on top of lingering moisture near the ground.
A warm front will move into the state Tuesday night, bringing in drizzle and fog along with a warming trend. Need to watch surface temperatures closely as this could initially be freezing drizzle for areas mainly northeast of I-74 between 10pm Tuesday to 4am CST Wednesday before the warmer air takes over.
More areas of drizzle/fog likely on Wednesday as warmer air continues to move in on top of our cold ground. Highs will well into the 40s (50 likely south), then well into the 50s Thursday ahead of a cold front. The cold front then moves east Thursday night with the potential of rain to switch over to a wintry mix. A secondary wave of low pressure looks to move northeast along the front Friday into Saturday….we need to watch this one closely for a potential winter storm in the Ohio Valley.
All three major global models agree on a winter storm in the region, but specifics on intensity and track remain uncertain being several days out. Certainly monitor updates over the coming days!
