Good Sunday afternoon. Rain and freezing rain continue to increase across southern Illinois, and expect this activity to continue moving eastward this evening. Light precipitation will be possible between 6-9pm EST. This initial precipitation may be a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The main batch of precipitation will build in by 10pm EST and beyond, and we expect the majority of this to fall as freezing rain through the overnight hours. A mix/transition to wet snow on the backside from a Bloomington to Columbus line and north 4-7am EST. Radar snapshot at 2:45pm EST shown below:
Here is the forecast radar loop from 5pm EST to 11AM EST Monday:
Latest temperature guidance 4pm today through 1pm Monday EST. Guidance running a couple degrees too cool, but overall has a decent handle on temperatures we believe:
The ice accumulation forecast off the hi-res data is showing more across south-central and southeast Indiana where the low-level cold air remains a bit more established. That said, even southwest areas will have icing concerns due to cold subsurface even though the model doesn’t pick up on it. Note we still think 0.05″-0.15″ of ice accumulation, the model forecast is likely a bit overdone.
It will be breezy during the overnight with southwest winds gusting to 35 mph. It will remain breezy during the morning, with diminishing wind for the afternoon.
Heading through Monday, drizzle likely lingers into early afternoon, then we should see late day clearing work in northwest to southeast. Afternoon highs of 35-40º.
Expecting a total of of 0.2″ to 0.4″ of available moisture with this system.
Our forecast remains the same. Again, 0.05″ to 0.15″ of icing possible all across the districts, with the yellow circled area from Bloomington to Columbus north seeing a mix and change to light snow at the end of the event ~4-7am EST.
