Forecast radar loop 10AM today – 6AM Monday CST: Freezing rain expands into areas west of I-55 10am to 3pm CST, then expands eastward from mid-afternoon through the evening hours:
Latest snow/ice forecast: Watching for freezing rain to mix/transition to wet snow overnight in central/east central Illinois where a slushy 1″ or so is possible, along with a tenth inch of icing. Areas further north see less icing, with rain or freezing rain being the precipitation type across southern Illinois. Surface temperatures may remain above freezing along/south of I-70, but because surfaces are so cold icing will still be a threat. Will be important to see how surface temperatures trend through the day.
