1-4-18 Northern Plains: Tracking light snow showers moving through the region. N.

Video (7 min):

Good Thursday morning! We are tracking on radar some snow showers working northwest to southeast across far eastern North/South Dakota into western/southern Minnesota this morning:

Simulated radar guidance regarding the remaining snow showers working through:

Note, however, the NAM hints at some additional snow showers developing over portions of North and South Dakota later tonight. As of now, this looks to be the area most likely to see some development:

Overall, these look to be scattered and generally light in nature. Overnight lows will still likely be dangerously cold in Minnesota, but we do begin to warm up over much of the Northern Plains towards the end of the week and into next week.

We will have to watch a storm system that will develop rapidly to the east of the Northern Plains. Models are hinting that the northern piece of energy could clip portions of Minnesota and drop some light accumulations late Saturday and early Sunday in portions of Eastern and Northeastern Minnesota.

We’ll be watching this potential closely the rest of this week. Have a great Thursday!
