1-30-18 Ohio: Light flurries today…warmer and windy into Wed…latest on late week and weekend wintry weather potential. K.

Today’s video:

Sim radar throughout the day suggests light snowfall ~30% or so will be possible mainly north of I-70 with lingering upper-level energy swinging east…it should be noted we will be working in drier air so some of this likely won’t be hitting the ground…not expecting much in the way of impacts from this:

We warm into Wednesday with stout southwest winds gusting at times to 30mph+ and temps getting into the upper 40s (maybe even in the lower 50s west)…we do have a warm front that’ll work east Wed AM but temps and dew pts are at a 15-20ºF spread which means we will be battling dry air once again…confidence right now is that very light rain showers possible, but little to no impacts expected at this time. The best threat looks to come Thursday into Friday AM mainly along and south of I-70 along the cold front with rain showers possibly mixing with snow at times:

Next wave that needs watching is Saturday night into Sunday as both the Euro and GFS suggest a wave of wintry weather sweeps into the Ohio Valley…the data suggests accumulating snow possible mainly between 1-3″ but at this distance models have consistently overdone snowfall so we are being slightly cautious here. Keep this timeframe in mind when planning travels, however, as confidence is pretty high there is a wintry weather event here:

Updated weeks 1 and 2 long-range outlooks suggest a return back to winter as we transition into the week 2 timeframe…we do transition to an overall drier, less active pattern in terms of precipitation which makes sense as we pump up the ridge in the west and push the moisture further east:
