1-30-18 Illinois Forecast: Brief warm-up into mid-week, then arctic air returns late week. Weekend snow chances. N.

Video:

Good morning!  High pressure will bring a chilly but mostly sunny day across the state.  As the high starts to shift east, a south wind will help temperatures warm this afternoon in the mid to upper 30s.

A warm front will lift through the state tonight with increasing clouds.  South winds will become gusty on Wednesday, bringing in milder temperatures.  An approaching front may generate a few showers in northern portions of the state by mid/late afternoon, then the threat for showers or a mix will increase overnight through Thursday as a cold front moves across the state.  Temperatures will fall all day from north to south.  We could see a brief mix to snow on the backside of the precipitation (esp. south), but moisture here looks limited and not concerned about impacts at this time.

Watching for snow chances this weekend as 2-3 waves move across the state.  Much more details to ironed out over the next few days.  It appears snow showers will move in from the northwest late Friday night, and chances continue off/on through Sunday night.  If you are looking for a “big” snow, the pattern looks too progressive for that right now.  That said, some accumulations look like a good bet.  A stronger round of arctic air looks to build in early next week.
