Good Tuesday morning! Milder air will flow into the region today, ahead of a cold front that will move through Wednesday into Thursday. Moisture and forcing look rather limited with this front, so only expecting light and scattered coverage of any showers Wednesday. A brief mix is possible as colder air catches the back-edge of the moisture Wednesday night into Thursday:
Note a pulse of energy along the front that rides across southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas Wednesday night into Thursday morning. This may drop light accumulations here:
Check out the temperature trends over the next few days. Most areas will be rather mild today and Wednesday, then much colder air on Thursday with falling temperatures during the day. Cold Friday morning!
The upcoming weekend does look to feature chances for snow. Another arctic front will dive into the Plains Saturday into Sunday. Some light rain or snow appears possible Saturday, then the best chance for snow looks to build in late Saturday night through Sunday.
Current data is honing in on Nebraska seeing the highest snow amounts this weekend with several inches possible. Most of this would come late Saturday night through Sunday. It does appear most of the area will see at least light snow amounts, so be sure to stay tuned over the coming days. Shown below are the snowfall totals off the American (GFS) & European (ECMWF) models. Notice both models have the highest snow totals over central Nebraska:
Precipitation totals over the next week look to range from a tenth to a quarter inch in many spots:
