1-3-18 Northern Plains: Light snow for portions of the region late tomorrow! B.

Video (7 min):

Good Wednesday Morning!

If you’re heading out this morning temperatures are well below zero over most of Minnesota and portions if Eastern North and South Dakota. Conditions will really begin to moderate for Southwest South Dakota today, and even a few upper 30s cannot be ruled out near Radid City, South Dakota.

The next chance for some accumulating snow comes late Thursday and into very early Friday. A piece of energy will diving south into the region. Models are beginning to catch onto the idea of some light snow during this time period. Here’s a look at the simulated radar between 3PM CST Tomorrow into 7AM CST Friday along with the latest snowfall forecast from the hi-resolution NAM.

We would not rule out some accumulations of up to one inch in the area outlined on our map below.

As a warmer air mass begins to work to the east this weekend, temperatures will really warm up in the western portions of the Dakotas… much of that area will be above freezing on Saturday afternoon!

We will also be watching a system that could bring some snow to Minnesota late Saturday into Sunday. This could put down some light accumulations, but it is highly dependent on when the northern stream of energy will phase with the southern stream. When and where this happens will determine how much snow is possible in Minnesota this weekend.
